Crown thinning

Crown thinning is the process of removing selected branches (usually dead, weak, overlapping or duplicated branches) from the crown of the tree in order to improve the balance and structure of the tree.

Crown thinning allows more light to pass through the branches and results in a more aesthetically pleasing tree whilst lightening the tree and making it appear less dense.

The diagram below shows the difference to a tree once crown thinning has taken place.
